Did you know that the olive is a fruit? Yes, it is. And in agronomy we are talking about “cultivation of oily fruits”. Here at Tananei our olives come from 3 different CULTIVAR (which means varieties) of olive trees that are named: FRANTOIO, MORAIOLO and LECCINO, typical Tuscan. Sometimes I’m asked: “as olives are fruits, is it possible to eat them as soon as collected?” The answer is not! They are very bitter and are mainly destinated to the production of Olive Oil even if, for instance, Leccino variety olives, due to their size and delicacy can be eaten after they are put under salt or after oven cooking.
